SurroHub vs. DocuSign for surrogacy agencies

Every agency sends a stack of agreements: a service agreement, an informed consent, a photo and media release, and more. Most send them through DocuSign, Dropbox Sign (formerly HelloSign) or PandaDoc. Here is how that compares with e-signature built into the agency platform.

Short answer: DocuSign is the most trusted name in e-signature and does it extremely well; Dropbox Sign and PandaDoc are solid alternatives. What they do not know is who your surrogate is, which match a contract belongs to, or what should happen once everyone has signed. SurroHub builds contracts from templates with merge fields filled from the profile, sends them for legally binding e-signature, collects the countersignature, and files the sealed PDF to the right surrogate, intended parent, egg donor or match. Gestational carrier agreements are still drafted and negotiated by each side's attorney.

What DocuSign and the alternatives do well

DocuSign is the standard many attorneys and clinics already use, recipients trust it, and its audit trail and compliance options are mature. Dropbox Sign (HelloSign before its rebrand) is simpler and pleasant to use. PandaDoc is strongest at proposals and quotes with pricing tables and analytics. If you only send a handful of documents a year, any of them is fine.

DocuSign eSignature list price as of October 2026, from their pricing page: Standard $30 per user/month on an annual plan; Business Pro $45. Prices change often; check before you buy. SurroHub is quoted per agency.

Where a general e-sign tool strains for an agency

Every contract is filled in by hand

Names, addresses, dates of birth, compensation and the intended parents' details are copied from the application into the template, for every surrogate. Each copy is a chance to send a contract with the wrong name in it.

The signed copy goes to an inbox

When everyone has signed, the PDF is emailed to the sender, who downloads it and uploads it to the surrogate's folder, if they remember. Six months later someone searches three inboxes for the signed media release.

It does not move the journey

Signing the agency agreement should start the next step. In a separate tool, someone has to notice the completion email and update the spreadsheet.

Envelope limits and seats

Business plans are priced per user and many cap envelopes per user, so busy agencies can hit limits or pay for extra senders.

What stays with the attorneys

The gestational carrier agreement is drafted and negotiated by the surrogate's attorney and the intended parents' attorney, and many attorneys use their own e-sign tool for it. That is fine. SurroHub handles your agency's own agreements, and the final signed GCA can be filed to the match's documents so it lives with the journey. Starter contract templates should always be reviewed by your own attorney.

When DocuSign is still the right call

If an attorney or partner requires DocuSign, or you need a specialised compliance feature, keep it for those documents. For the agreements your agency sends every week, signing inside the system that holds the profile saves the copying, the chasing and the filing.

Frequently asked questions

Are SurroHub e-signatures legally binding?

SurroHub e-signatures are designed to meet US e-signature law (the ESIGN Act and UETA): each signer consents, signs, and the sealed PDF carries an audit certificate of who signed and when. Have your attorney review any agreement before use.

Can SurroHub replace DocuSign for a surrogacy agency?

For the agency's own agreements, such as service agreements, consents and releases, yes. Gestational carrier agreements are drafted by attorneys, who may use their own tools; the signed copy can be filed in SurroHub.

Can I use my existing contracts?

Yes. Send us your agreements and we set them up as templates with merge fields, or import one yourself and Surro rebuilds it.

What about Dropbox Sign (HelloSign) and PandaDoc?

The same applies. They are good general e-sign tools; SurroHub adds merge fields from the profile, packets, reminders by text, and automatic filing to the right surrogate, intended parent, egg donor or match.
